Bethel Park to Receive Tourism Grants, Announces Mihalek and Robinson

BETHEL PARK – Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) and Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-Allegheny/Washington) have announced Bethel Park is the recipient of two Gaming Economic Development Tourism Funds (GEDTF), which funds community projects in Allegheny County through a tax assessed on slot games in casinos.

“These grants mean a lot to the leads of each project and the community,” said Mihalek. “I can think of no two organizations more deserving of these funds. Both groups are dedicated to helping the Bethel Park community in different ways.”

The Bethel Park Historical Society will receive $100,000 for building renovations. Funds will be used to replace the outside staircase at the rear of the building, repointing brick on the building and repairing the mortar joints. The historical society preserves the history of the town, which is so important for future generations. They also offer a space that promotes community unity by hosting several events every year.

“Bethel Park is fortunate to have these two wonderful organizations to deliver assistance and education to the community,” Sen. Robinson said. “The tourism grant will give the support needed to improve their buildings so they can continue their dedication to the citizens of Bethel Park.”

South Hills Interfaith Ministries will receive $370,000 for renovation of the center. Funds will be used to make ADA improvements including improving client support services and reconfiguring administrative offices, adding an on-grade accessible entrance immediately adjacent to parking and adding an elevator tower for easy access to both floors. Other improvements include the food pantry/clothing shop being reconfigured, updated thermal performance, a new conference room and vestibule being created and more, all to improve client experience. South Hills Interfaith Ministries is dedicated to helping anyone in the community who struggles with hunger and poverty. The organization holds events, raises money and brings in hundreds of volunteers to help make life better for those in the South Hills.
